![]() ![]() It's technically NOT in their best interest to provide a perfect service for books that are being purchased elsewhere! Yes, it would be nice to have BOTH sync and cover thumbnails, but Amazon is not obligated to provide that. Folks who want the thumbnails can always convert to. However, Amazon is providing a service with hosting our personal documents AT ALL. I don't disagree, I personally would prefer seeing the cover thumbnails! As some others have said, they can do what they want, it's their own business decision to make, and maybe it's the price we pay for a relatively cheaper e-ink reader.īut it's definitely got me looking into other options, and there may be some lightly used Kindle devices up for sale in the relatively near future because this is sure not moving in the right direction for me. I'm not holding my breath that they'll fix it.Īnd side-loading and jumping through hoops to get the cover art to show up really isn't a solution, even if I didn't mind the extra effort, since side-loading negates WhisperSync, which is pretty important for anyone reading across multiple devices.Īs others have said, these issues are 100% of Amazon's own making and a result of their attempts to lock us into their walled garden. I've just spent 45 minutes in chat with 5 different Amazon support reps, deregistering, reregistering, and factory resetting my Oasis, sending, deleting, and resending epubs, to finally get the support rep to send my bug report of Kindle device firmware failing to display cover art along to their technical teams. (Please apologize for possible mistakes in my writing, I'm Italian, not native in english □). With new forthcoming valid alternatives in current and next months/years, mostly those with better/larger displays and ecosystems less prone to "dictatorship", maybe times will be mature for us to say goodbye to our beloved Kindles, and move to true open solutions. Very annoying □Īll this crap is just a way Amazon is trying to implement to harden its own ecosystem, and jail customers to its own store. ![]() Moreover, if a book is not synchronized with your Amazon account, you'll not be able to automatically sync it on any new device you'll add to your account in a future, say a new Kindle you'll purchase the next year. When you send a book to the Kindle through Calibre using a cable connection you completely loose book synchronization with your Amazon account, thus leading to loosing synchronization of the book across all your devices. Thanks u/viper_in_the_grass for flagging this. Officially, this takes effect from August, though some people have found that they can already send Epubs through Send to Kindle.Īny questions, drop them below, or if anyone has links to Amazon support pages on this, it would be very helpful. This only applies to the Send to Kindle service and the mobile apps - Kindle devices will not support the Epub format. The Kindle app for Android and iOS will also gain Epub support. When sending an Epub file through Send to Kindle, the service will convert it to a format supported by the Kindle. Send to Kindle will no longer be supporting Mobi files, but will start to accept Epub files instead.
